I got the opportunity to work with old boss Jim Durrwachter on the wildfires in West Texas earlier this year. I had my Holga along with me so I snapped a few opportune photos when I had the chance. Jim has been a huge influence in my career and life so I wanted to get one or two photos of him doing what he loves. You will notices the OSC1 on his jacket, that means he’s a Operations Section Chief Type 1. OSC1 basically means you work with the firefighters and local landowners to make sure the fire is corralled in a manner that works best for everyone while keeping the firefighters and public safe.
It’s the first time I have been able to see Jim since he retired at the end of the last year, he now gets to spend his time fishing, hunting, gardening and woodworking when he’s not out with the team working on large fires. These photos capture Jim in his element.
